MATERIAL WHIRL

Layers of upholstered pieces within a room
can stitch together a charming story.

“Fabric and its use on upholstered furniture and curtaining is my favourite part of decorating,” says interior designer Adelaide Bragg of Adelaide Bragg & Associates (pictured with Belle interior design editor Lucy Montgomery). “It is often where I gain my inspiration. My starting point for a scheme may be a scrap of fabric and it flows from there with a print in the perfect colours or a pattern that speaks to the architecture. Fabric is a great way to add detail: perhaps a print that changes the scale or adds a pop of colour or touch of quirkiness. Even a piece as simple as a stool can be transformed into a little jewel to draw the eye.
